Hello my dear friend,
On a podcast a few weeks ago, I was asked whether I practice "eating the frog" first thing in the morning. I truly believe and apply the concept, and I am successful at doing so because I am a morning person. But what about people who have more energy in the evening (definitely not me!)?
You can easily identify when your energies are higher, so I'd say go with what works best for you. But what do you do in the morning to set yourself up for greatness if you are a night owl?
With a few adjustments and intentional choices, you can create an effective morning routine that honours your night owl tendencies while setting the tone for a successful day. Here's how:
1️⃣ Set a Consistent Wake-Up Time: Choose a wake-up time that allows for sufficient sleep while still giving you a head start on the day. Consistency is key to help regulate your internal clock and optimise your morning routine.
2️⃣ Prioritise Quality Sleep: Ensure you're getting the recommended hours of sleep for your age and maintain a sleep-friendly environment. Dim the lights, limit screen time before bed, and consider using blackout curtains or an eye mask to create a conducive sleep environment.
3️⃣Start with Mindfulness: Begin your morning routine with a few moments of mindfulness or meditation. This can help calm your mind, increase focus, and set a positive tone for the day ahead.
4️⃣ Hydrate and Nourish: Kickstart your morning with a tall glass of water to rehydrate your body after a night's sleep. Follow it up with a nutritious breakfast to provide your body with the fuel it needs for sustained energy throughout the day.
5️⃣ Incorporate Light and Movement: Open your curtains or step outside to expose yourself to natural light, which signals to your body that it's time to wake up. Engage in light stretching, a short workout, or a brisk walk to get your blood flowing and increase alertness.
6️⃣ Prioritise Key Tasks: Identify your most important tasks for the day and tackle them during your peak energy hours. Leverage your night owl productivity by focusing on high-priority projects that require deep concentration and creativity.
7️⃣ Design Your Ideal Morning Routine: Tailor your routine to suit your interests and preferences. Whether it's reading, journaling, listening to music, or engaging in a hobby, allocate time for activities that bring you joy and set a positive tone for the day.
Whilst nothing has to be set in stones, designing a great morning routine will facilitate your ease into the day. For this we need to reflect and adjust. So, my last tip to you is to evaluate your morning routine to identify what works best for you. Be open to making adjustments as you discover new strategies or find a rhythm that aligns with your night owl nature.
Remember, the goal is to create a morning routine that energises and empowers you, setting the stage for a productive and fulfilling day, regardless of when your internal clock thrives.
Wishing you peaceful mornings and productive days ahead!
Your coach,
E
